The five paragons added by the Dawnguard DLC — gemstones dropped by Falmer in the Forgotten Vale. Each one slots into the Paragon Platform to open a portal to a hidden reward area. Here's where every portal leads and the item code to spawn each gem.
Paragons are five colored gemstones — Amethyst, Diamond, Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire — found during the Dawnguard quest line. Each is carried by a Falmer somewhere in the Forgotten Vale, the vast frozen sub-region you visit to recover Auriel's Bow. Once you have a paragon, take it to the Paragon Platform (a stone device near the Wayshrine of Learning, to the northwest) and socket it into the holder. Doing so opens a portal that teleports you to a small, otherwise unreachable area packed with loot. Each color opens a different portal, so all five are worth collecting. You can find the platform and the wider region on the Forgotten Vale map.
Prefer to skip the climb? Open the console with the tilde key ~ and use the player.additem codes below to spawn any paragon straight into your inventory. Note that DLC item codes begin with XX, which stands for the two-digit load order of Dawnguard in your game — check your item codes reference if you're unsure what to substitute.
The five paragons and their rewards
Amethyst Paragon
Opens a portal to a sealed ledge in Darkfall Grotto, where a chest holds gold, potions and scrolls.
Diamond Paragon
Opens a portal to an unreachable ledge in the Glacial Crevice, with a chest of gems, gold and potions.
Emerald Paragon
Opens a portal to the Forgotten Vale Overlook, where a chest holds gold, gems, potions and Elven or Dwarven weapons alongside a skeleton and a copy of Unknown Book, Vol. II.
Ruby Paragon
Opens a portal to the Forgotten Vale Forest, where a Falmer Warmonger fighting frost trolls carries the unique artifact Auriel's Shield; a nearby chest holds a few gems and potions.
Sapphire Paragon
Opens a portal to a hidden room in the Inner Sanctum, with three chests of gems, gold and potions plus loose gems and pieces of Elven armor.
How to use a paragon
Carry a paragon to the Paragon Platform and activate the empty holder to insert it; the matching portal appears immediately. Step through, clear out the reward area, then return through the portal — the paragon stays in the platform, so come back with another color to open the next portal. The standout prize is the Ruby Paragon's portal to the Forgotten Vale Forest, where a Falmer Warmonger wields the unique artifact Auriel's Shield.
