There are seven Black Books in Skyrim, all added by the Dragonborn DLC and hidden across the island of Solstheim. Reading one transports you to Apocrypha, the realm of the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora, where you work through its chapters and choose a single power to keep. You can revisit a book at any time to swap your choice. The books sit in a sub-worldspace, so they are not on the main Skyrim map — use the Solstheim map to track down each location, and the item code on each book to spawn it directly with the console.

Epistolary Acumen
Location: Recovered inside the Dwemer ruin Nchardak, east of Tel Mithryn, during the main-quest stage The Path of Knowledge.
Power: Reshapes your breath shouts: Dragonborn Force makes Unrelenting Force hit harder and can disintegrate foes; Dragonborn Flame raises a fire wyrm from enemies your Fire Breath kills; Dragonborn Frost freezes targets caught by Frost Breath.
Filament and Filigree
Location: Found deep in Kolbjorn Barrow, southeast of Raven Rock, after funding Ralis Sedarys's dig and clearing the dragon priest Ahzidal.
Power: Grants a 30-second buff you can re-pick at will: Secret of Strength (power attacks cost no stamina), Secret of Arcana (spells cost no magicka), or Secret of Protection (you take half damage).
The Hidden Twilight
Location: Kept in Neloth's private quarters atop his tower at Tel Mithryn, accessible after the Reluctant Steward quest.
Power: Offers one of Mora's gifts: Mora's Agony summons a field of poisonous tentacles, Mora's Boon fully restores your health, magicka and stamina, and Mora's Grasp briefly banishes a target from reality.
The Sallow Regent
Location: Hidden in White Ridge Barrow in northern Solstheim, guarded by the dragon priest Dukaan.
Power: Boosts a set of skills: Seeker of Might (combat and smithing), Seeker of Shadow (stealth and alchemy), or Seeker of Sorcery (cheaper spells and stronger enchanting).
The Winds of Change
Location: Reached at the end of Bloodskal Barrow, opened during the Final Descent quest in the reworked Raven Rock Mine.
Power: Confers an Insight ability: Companion's Insight (your attacks no longer harm allies), Lover's Insight (you deal more damage to and get better prices from the opposite sex), or Scholar's Insight (skill books grant double the usual skill gain).
Untold Legends
Location: Lies at the far end of the cave Benkongerike in northern Solstheim, past its pillar puzzle.
Power: Summons a helper: Bardic Knowledge calls a spectral drummer that restores stamina, Black Market conjures a merchant to trade with, and Secret Servant summons a Dremora butler to carry your goods.
Waking Dreams
Location: Found inside the Temple of Miraak at the heart of Solstheim, during the Dragonborn main quest before confronting Miraak.
Power: Reading it again later lets you spend a single dragon soul to reset all of your perks and reclaim every point for respeccing.
How many Black Books are there?
There are seven Black Books, and every one of them is on Solstheim. To use a book's item code, replace the XX at the start with the load order of the Dragonborn DLC in your game (usually 04), then open the console with the tilde key ~ and enter the player.additem command listed above.
